White Christmas Drive
ARCADIA HIGH SCHOOL WHITE CHRISTMAS 2008 PROGRAM DECEMBER 1-12
The White Christmas tradition was established in the 1932 when Arcadia school teachers banded together to collect canned goods and other items. They neatly wrapped the donations in white paper and tied them in ribbons to distribute as a gift giving drive to the many families in need during the depression era. The program has survived for over seventy years and will be expanded into a year-round program. The Arcadia Welfare and Thrift Shop located at 323 N. First Avenue in Arcadia who coordinates this program has determined that there is a need for welfare assistance for Arcadia families during the entire year, not just the holidays.
This year, Arcadia High School will participate in the drive from December 1 – 12th. During these two weeks, all students and staffs from the high school are encouraged to bring in ready to eat canned food items. We are requesting ready-to eat canned soups, stews, pasta, chili, and tuna fish. We also need fruit cocktails and cup noodles. This is an urgent need and we hope our students and staffs are able to participate.
All Arcadia families are encouraged to both donate and shop for gently used items at the Thrift Store. Those who wish to make financial contribution may do so also by sending the check to the above address. Shop hours:8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturdays Closed on Sundays.
Please bring in your ready to eat canned food donation during December 1 – 12th. Thank you for helping!
Sincerely, Theresia Liem Jenny Tsouvalas Arcadia High School White Christmas Program 2008 |
