Administrator Report:
David Vannasdall – Principal: David first addressed the Lockdown. He complimented the staff and students. He then brought to our attention two areas that he had marked as needing to change during out last lockdown, one was the command center and the other was being notified in a timely manner. Both of these items were fixed. We established a command center in the Staff parking lot with Office Davis and David, as well as had the APD Chief and Mr. Tipton in the admin build. This helped with our communication between APD and AHS. Officer Davis phoned David directly to let him know what was happening. With in moments of his call we were able to react and place the school in lockdown.
David then thanked the PTSA for donating $1000.00 towards the AHS agendas. This year the agendas will include information specifically about the White Mountains Apaches. Phone blaster worked! During the lockdown we were able to send out messages to each AHS family.
Lori McQuaid will be our new College Specialist Counselor. David was very excited to have a counselor in this position to work directly with the College recruiters. He truly believes that AHS students will benefit from having someone if this position.
David then presented a power point update on the new facilities.
Jason Davis- YES Officer: Officer Davis gave an update on the lockdown that took place on Friday, June 1st. At approximately 11:28 a 911 call was received. The caller stated that a gun was in the band room and hung up. Five units were dispatch to the High School and Officer David contacted Mr. Vannasdall and informed him that the school should go into lock down. The command center was set up in the staff parking lot. Officers were placed on Duarte and Campus blocking traffic. APD requested assistants from the Monrovia and Sierra Madre police departments. At the time the school went into lock down there were approx. 100 students in MB1 and MB2. A sweep of both rooms was made and each person was searched and escorted to the northeast portion of the parking lot. The room was emptied and searched. The lockdown ended at approx. 12:30.
Catherine Merel- Assistant Principal: We are currently interviewing for Math, English, Social Science, and Foreign Language. The group of perspective teachers we have to choose from is outstanding. We have made two offers at this point.
We are starting to put the puzzle together for the 07-08 master schedule.
The staff has agreed to stay with the collaboration time during the school day. We will have 5 first semester and 5 second semester. We appreciated your support with this program.
Cindi Franz- ROP Counselor: Cindi brought a listing of the surrounding schools that will be offering summer school. The list was left of tables and is also available at the COD desk. ROP Classes are free, if your child is interested please take a look at the list left or stop by the Career Center.
